Brian was miserable in his finance job. Every day at 5 PM, he'd come home drained.
I watched him slowly disappear into what was supposed to be his "responsible" life.
On the way home from a conference, I asked him: "What if you didn't do this anymore?"
He looked at me like I was crazy. We had bills. We had responsibilities. You don't just walk away from stability.
But sometimes one person has to see what the other person needs before they see it themselves.
And I knew Brian was built for something bigger than a cubicle.
He turned in his notice. Three weeks later, we bought our first flip.
What made this possible:
Brian brought something irreplaceable: construction skills from working alongside his dad since he was a little boy, and a finance mind that understood numbers, risk, and cash flow like few people do. I brought marketing expertise and an entrepreneur’s mindset for what actually works.
But more than skills, we brought a willingness to bet on ourselves when everything said we shouldn't.
What we learned:
That first deal was harder than we imagined. Longer timelines. Higher costs. Mistakes we didn't see coming.
But in the middle of the chaos, something shifted. When problems came up (and they always do in construction) we didn't panic separately. We problem solved together. We learned to communicate about money openly. To make decisions quickly. To trust each other's instincts even when we saw things differently.
For the first time, our partnership wasn't just romantic. It became strategic.
That was almost 4 years ago.
Since then, we've flipped 15 homes, built a rental portfolio and multiple businesses. But the real wealth we've built?
It's in knowing that we can handle anything together.
